Consumable & Assistive Technology (AT)

What is the difference between Consumables and Assistive Technology (AT)?

"Assistive Technology" (AT) is the NDIS's term for equipment - it can be small/simple items that are relatively low cost (often known as low cost, low risk AT or 'consumables') or it can be more complex personalised items such as wheelchairs, shower commodes, and leg splints (AFOs)

Consumables

Often called Low Cost, Low Risk Assistive Technology (AT). These items are everyday items that you may help you with everyday tasks, mobility, vision, or hearing

The NDIS Guide for Self Managers here has a great section on pg 8 called "What can I buy" which takes you through a checklist to assist with decision making regarding consumables.
